At Central Missouri Electric Cooperative, we are a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative that strives to provide safe, reliable, and affordable electrical service. We work to operate at a low cost with any profits earned being returned to our member-owners. Like you, CMEC has been affected by rising costs. Due to this, your cooperative is facing a rate increase. Your cooperative does not take this increase lightly and has done everything possible to minimize the impact on our member-owners.

After a slight effective rate decrease in 2024, operating cost increases require the cooperative to increase revenue through a small rate increase in 2025.

61% of cost increases are from Generation and Transmission expenses necessary to maintain reliable power to our member-owners. These costs include a portion of construction of two new power plants necessary for reliably serving member peak load in the coldest and hottest days of the coming years. The remainder of this increase covers other operating expense increases such as contracted labor costs, supply chain costs, and fixed costs.

The average rate increase across the membership is 3%.

This rate increase will be reflected on your May bills.

Single-phase residential members will see a $2 increase in monthly service availability, $0.50 increase in kW demand rate, and small increase in kWh rates. For an average household using 1,000 kWh per month, this results in an increase of $6 or a little under $0.20 per day.

We are a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative. Funds in excess of annual expenses are called margins and are set aside for our members at the end of each year. This rate adjustment will maintain budgeted margins steady for 2025. Margins are returned to members in future years in the form of capital credits.
